Lake Township Trustees and Fiscal Officer
Township Roads - The Trustees administer the continual improvement of roads by maintenance and paving. The Trustees also determine the speed limits in Township subdivisions with dedicated roads and can close a road if deemed impassable. However, Trustees are prohibited from constructing new roads.
Police Protection - The Trustees are responsible for the appointment of the Police Chief and grant the Chief authorization to employ trained and professional police officers to protect the safety and welfare of Township residents. This authorization includes purchase of equipment and supervision of the Township's state-of -the-art dispatching center used for Police, Fire and EMS services. The City of Rossford and Village of Walbridge currenty contract with the Trustees for Police, EMS, and Fire dispatching services.
Fire and EMS Services- The Trustees has an establish Fire Department with stations located in Walbridge and Millbury and Paramedics quarters in the Administration building. The Trustees appoint the Fire Chief and approve the hiring of firefighters to the staff roster of both stations. The Trustees also approve the purchase of equipment and improvment of buildings and land for the fire department. The Trustees contract with Lifestar Ambulance Service to provide EMS/Dispatching services for Township residents.
Zoning - The Trustees appoint a zoning inspector and regulate the use of land and buildings to control development of township land in a orderly fashion which protects homes and property from harmful uses. Zoning can establish preferable sites for the various zoning classifications of industrial, commercial, and residential. Zoning restrictions must have a reasonalbe relationship to publichealth, safety, morals, and the general welfare. The Trustees appoint the members to the Zoning Commission who determine zoning and Zone Board of Appeals who grant variances and conditional uses.
Waste Disposal- Trustees are authorized by Ohio Revised Code to enter into a contract to provide waste disposal services to Township residents.
Cemetery- The Trustees assisted by the Cemetery Sexton fix grave and foundation fees, establish rules and regulations to maintain and improve the Cemetery. The Trustees are also allowed under Ohio Revised Code to purchase additional land to establish or increase the size of the Cemetery.
Parks- The Lake Township Trustees have established and operate two parks. Friendship Park a passive park and Fireside Park a sports park. The Trustees created the position of Parks Director who has the authority over both parks. The Trustee's work with the Parks Director in formulating rules and regulations for the parks, applying for grants and determing park projects.
The Trustees have the authority to purchase land and/or materials for parks and recreational uses for the enjoyment of township residents.
