The large native stone above is located just east of the cemetery office. At one time an American Indian Chief of a local tribe, worked for the Hirzel Canning Company located in adjacent Northwood. He had no known relatives when he died, and he was buried. Later, Karl Hirzel, owner of the canning company at the time, had the large rock moved to the cemetery and had the plaque placed on it in memory of this Indian Chief.

   Lake Township Cemetery is a public non-denominational cemetery open to both residents and non-residents of the township. The cemetery was formally eatablished in 1876 with some burials as early as 1871. Many members of the pioneer families of Lake Township are interred here.
  The 40 acre cemetery is maintained by 2 full time employees with seasonal help during the summer. The cemetery hosts the annual Memorial Day program held by the Walbridge V.F.W. Post 9963.
